Token Box
We stood up Token Box with the hopes of creating a company that can support many different kinds of development and creativity. We are starting with our cornerstone "House of Eidolons".
This is the idea that gave us the drive and direction to build a system that we think can change the tabletop Role-playing games landscape. Bring people together, and craft some of the most epic power fantasy!
Token Box. House of Eidolons. These things have been in the making for 20 years. And that’s including multiple projects starting and failing. Work and life get in the way of one concept or idea and not returning to it. We all have our own story when it comes to completing projects or being creative. We have had a friendship that spanned more than the last 20 years and over this period we’ve tried many times to break into the tabletop or role-playing space but I never followed through. Ideas have been great over the years but it just required that last push to complete. With fantasy TTRPGs becoming massively more popular our group of friends finally stuck with the game. The campaign lasted over a year and was one of the most life-changing stories I had ever experienced. This spawned an idea that has taken shape and we want to share it with the role-playing world.
So what is House of Eidolons? We love the futuristic idea of a cyberpunk world. Maybe that’s a bleak future, maybe there’s positivity on the horizon. But when it comes to those settings it’s always been dark and almost out of the control of the players. Many of the futuristic tabletops and RPGs were so complex and hard to walk into as a new player, even a veteran. Systems are rife with bloat and convoluted rules. Our goal was to take what had been done so well in the fantasy world and translate it into a futuristic one that not only supports the players but also the creators. One of the tenets I learned working in game development was "easy to learn but hard to master". This gives the player and the creator the ability to make complex and interesting situations without it being a hard thing to grasp. The difficulty with creating an easily understood system is not having the complexity to hold your audience. We think we’ve found a good balance that allows the creator to be supported and the players to make interesting and unique choices. As we develop there will be balancing, and content changes, but our goal is to make the most comprehensive, interesting, and fun system so you can continue to craft incredible stories and experiences!
